The Tea Party has done untold damage to the Republican Party in the US and it is about to do a lot more. The Tea Party madmen on the fringes of political reality have stoked a deep hatred for President Barack Obama who has been portrayed as running a lawless and out-of-control White House, which is worthy of impeachment. The latest dimwit to call for this was former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

The feeble Republican Speaker, John Boehner, has not been able to squash the nonsense of impeachment, but he has tried to head it off by launching a lawsuit against the president. But after weeks of build-up, all that Boehner could find to sue over was a shift in a deadline for an obscure provision of the Affordable Care Act, so the Republicans are treated to the bizarre sight of their leader in the House suing to get Obama to immediately implement a policy they do not want.

The Democrats are delighted by all this and will want to keep it going all the way to the 2016 presidential polls.
