On Libya:

The UAE’s Al Bayan sought setting all personal gains and interests aside for the sake of the country’s security and stability. “For months battles have raged in various areas of Libya, such as in Benghazi in the east and capital Tripoli, which is suffering from destruction due to fierce battles between armed groups that are striving to seize control over the city and its international airport,” said Al Bayan.

“This impedes any attempt for achieving security and stability in the country, which has been through decades of tyranny and injustice. Not only that, renegade Libyan General Khalifa Haftar launched his own offensive against what he described as ‘terrorists’. This makes it hard to assess the security scene in Libya, especially with the escalation of operations that led to the death of civilians, men of religion and militants in a series of systematic assassinations.

“This calls for a Libyan unity, forged purely for the good of the country, surpassing personal benefits and allegiances to secure stability in the country.”

On Palestine:

The Oman Tribune’s editorial questioned the inaction of the international community and UN Human Rights Council. “The inaction of the international community in these heartrending circumstances is extremely shameful. Equally shameful is the dubious role of the UN Human Rights Council. On Wednesday, July 23, more than a week after Israel started the mass murder of Palestinians in Gaza, the Council decided to launch a probe into Israel’s offensive in Gaza. The Council should have started the probe much earlier.”

Lebanon’s Daily Star expected a new intifada if the needs and grievances of the Palestinians were not met or addressed. “People in the West Bank spend every day waiting for news on the Israeli government’s next land grab. They are at the mercy of armed Israeli colonists. They have to negotiate a series of demeaning roadblocks, checkpoints and other measures, all in the name of Israel’s security. They are at the mercy of arbitrary detention and worse,” said the Daily Star.

“And now, they are engaged in violent confrontations with Israeli soldiers and colonists in villages and towns around the West Bank. If Israel doesn’t address the grievances of Palestinians — all Palestinians — or if the international community is unwilling to exert pressure in this direction, a new intifada should be expected. It’s a simple case of a people under siege, who have nothing to lose.”

The Jordan Times editorial spoke on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s endgame for Israel’s land operation against Gaza: To demilitarise the Gaza Strip. “If this is truly the only exit policy for Israel from the Gaza quagmire, then it is a tall order that promises more bloodshed and destruction, especially for Palestinian civilians. All seasoned military experts agree that to render Gaza a demilitarised zone would entail months of door-to-door fighting during which, thousands more innocent lives will be lost.

“Instead of seeking a military solution, Israel should be seeking a political solution,” said the editorial.
