2003 - Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Economic Department, officially opened the Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Kosovo, which was established and built by the UAE Armed Forces serving in the United Nations peace-keeping forces in Kosovo, Kfor, in cooperation with the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA). Shaikh Hamed said the UAE always provided medical care to Kosovo in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The President wanted the UAE Armed Forces and the RCA to work together to establish a field hospital at the UAE Armed Forces Camp in Kukes, Kosovo, to provide health care and shelter to refugees.
