Hatta Heritage Village opens

2001 - A new tourist destination was unveiled with the opening of the Hatta Heritage Village by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry and Chairman of Dubai Municipality. Hatta is an oasis nestling among hills with date palms. The village covers an area of more than two square kilometres and comprises 20 restored structures that are 150 years old. The highlights for visitors to the Dhl5 million village are the governor’s fort, ancient houses, a traditional restaurant, date palm products, a house exhibiting local architecture, a barbecue pit, pebbles used in traditional cannons and the grand mosque. Each of them has been built using the traditional materials available to people in the area.
