1987 - League champions Al Wasl were crowned UAE National Football Champions and ended their season earlier in the evening on a winning note. A 3-2 win over Al Sha’ab gave the new champions a total of 52 points, 10 ahead of nearest rivals, holders Sharjah. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Football Association, presented Al Wasl captain Fahd Khamis with the trophy and each player with a gold medal. Striker Zuhair Bakheet finished the season as the league’s top scorer after cracking home 24 goals for the champions. Sharjah’s Abdul Aziz Mohammad was second on the scorers’ list with 22. Al Wasl’s home win over Al Sha’ab rounded off a dream season, with the club now set to take the President’s Cup and make it a double winning year.
