1987 - World Championship leader Nelson Piquet of Brazil collected his second lucky win in succession when he capped a week of great personal satisfaction by triumphing in the Hungarian Grand Prix. After trailing Williams teammate Nigel Mansell of Britain for 70 of the 76 laps, Piquet repeated his victory in last year’s inaugural race at the demanding Hungarian circuit when his arch-rival lost a rear wheel nut and retired. The win, following his West German Grand Prix victory two weeks ago in similarly fortunate circumstances, lifted Piquet seven points clear of compatriot Ayrton Senna, and 18 in front of Mansell and World Champion Alain Prost of France. Senna finished second and Prost third. It was the 19th win of his career for Piquet, who has described his move to Lotus as “perfect”.
