The Dubai Municipality’s awareness campaign to protect children from the dangers of swimming pools, toys and salons will go a long way in minimising accidents. Parents, safety supervisors and owners of establishments are the main targets for this campaign and stand to understand the dangers of neglect and, in many cases, the flagrant violation of law.

Many children have paid with their lives for the violation of safety regulations at swimming pools and salons. While distributing brochures on child safety in playgrounds, shopping centres and parks, the municipality hopes that people will take one more look at the dangers lurking around for children and act cautiously.

Overcrowded nurseries and those not complying with standards of cleanliness will also be under the spotlight. In short, it is time for all concerned to tighten their belt and take the issue of child safety seriously. Children must be allowed to enjoy the facilities around them, but not at the cost of abuse or misuse.

Rules have been put in place for the safety of children. It is now the turn of adults to obey them.
