With the release of the new school ratings by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), it is important that the process of rating is examined in its entirety. After all, the purpose of this process is to improve educational standards at all schools.

The recent KHDA report has not allocated the ‘outstanding' rating to a single school, while only five were rated as ‘unsatisfactory'. And although the KHDA follows a system of evaluation, with a number of requirements for each school, there are numerous elements that are required if this evaluation system is to reap any benefits. For one thing, parents should be engaged in understating fully the adopted method and approach of evaluation. In addition, schools should be assisted with understanding how improvements could be carried out. After all, this is the best way forward for all parties involved to attain a win-win outcome.
