The world will be a safer place with a nuclear deal with Iran and it is obvious that a bad deal will not be worth having. Therefore, it is unfortunate that in the last minute, politicians from both sides are jumping into the public arena calling for assorted conditions, playing to their own domestic audience and commenting on issues that have already been covered. The Iranian parliament has defined some conditions, followed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who spoke about inspections; and now, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has added some more ideas of what has to be included in the final deal.

All this noise and bluster does not help. The right place for all of this discussion is with the formal negotiating teams, who are balancing all the issues to find an eventual compromise. In addition, there will be plenty of time for all domestic parties from both sides to review the final deal once it is done. They should hold their peace for now and when there is a final text, they can comment on reality rather than speculating about what may be in the text.
