The amended federal law on human trafficking that calls for more support and protection given to victims, as well as providing a clear characterization of what constitutes trafficking, is a step in the right direction by the UAE’s authorities.

The new law criminalises the intent to traffic and equates it with the magnitude of the crime itself. This illustrates the rational that human dignity stands above everything else and there is minimum tolerance for this offence.

The UAE has always been at the forefront in the battle to contain human trafficking. It not only fights the menace but provides the werewithal to ensure that the well being of victims is addressed through various provisions available and this includes counselling them through the trauma and proper rehabilitation into society.

Like any conscious global citizen the UAE has stepped up its fight on trafficking by protecting victims and prosecuting criminals. It is an active participant in assessing the existing challenges and discussing viable solutions with the all stakeholders.

Active engagement in dialogue on a common platform, exchanging thoughts on global best practices and researching every opportunity to look ahead with partners is what gives the UAE its distinctive character.
