There can be no let-up in the UAE's war on drugs. Illegal narcotics use, drug smuggling and the criminal activities associated with the distribution, sale and addiction are scourges on society.

For those addicted to illegal drugs, all moral compasses are skewed, tossed out the window, and anything goes to allow addicts to satisfy their chemical cravings.

Those who profit from the distribution and sale of illegal drugs are but vultures picking at the bones of the weak and sick.

Prostitution, human trafficking, petty crime, fraud and violence follow in lockstep with the drug trade.

For officials at all levels of the police and justice system of the UAE, there must be no let-up in making sure this acidic scourge which erodes society is kept from our borders.

Those who attempt to smuggle narcotics through our airports and across our frontiers deserve the stiffest punishment permissible under law. And those who abuse or possess narcotics need to be treated as criminals who are subverting our peaceful, safe and secure society.

For those who are addicted to narcotics, they need treatment and education to ensure they do not again fall prey to the pushers of quick highs and criminal lows.
