The results of the recent parliamentary elections in Iran are significant as their ramifications will have an impact on the internal as much as on the external front. According to the election results, conservatives won 69 per cent of the parliament's seats, while reformists have gained a mere 16 per cent of the seats.

It is yet to be seen whether this majority would adopt critical stands vis-a -vis the policies of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

But one factor that could not be overlooked or underestimated is that the effects left by the relentless attacks of the US administration against Iran have brought the conservatives closer together in a united stand. It could not be denied that external factors have played a role in the final results.

This should in fact be a learning lesson for the Americans - whose constant, persistent and unjustifiable attacks would most probably bring about negative consequences.
