Car pooling offers people a flexible method of travel and a chance to take a break from the inescapable stresses of driving. It is also an effective way to reduce traffic congestion as well as noise pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. In other words, it helps reduce global warming.

The fact that a number of motorists have been randomly fined by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for "using their cars as illegal taxis" or as the drivers have explained, for sharing their cars with friends, puts a barrier to the concept of car pooling as it might discourage some from applying that method altogether.

While sharing rides for the sake of monetary gain is wrong and should not be tolerated by the authorities, car-pooling to work and picking up friends is a different subject matter altogether and it should be emboldened.
