Manama: President Barack Obama is nominating William V. Roebuck as ambassador to Bahrain, the White House has said.
Roebuck, a career member of the Foreign Service, will replace, if his nomination is approved, Thomas C. Krajeski.
Roebuck is currently Deputy Assistant Secretary for Egypt and Maghreb Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the Department of State (DOS), a position he has held since 2013, the White House said on Thursday.
Previously, Roebuck served as Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Tripoli, Libya in 2013. He was Director of the Office of Maghreb Affairs at DOS from 2010 to 2012, and served as Deputy Political Counselor at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq from 2009 to 2010. From 2007 to 2009, he was Deputy Office Director in the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs, and was Political Section Chief at the US Embassy in Damascus, Syria from 2004 to 2007.
Roebuck was a Political Officer at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel from 2000 to 2003. Earlier in his career, he taught English in Taif, Saudi Arabia, and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sassandra, Côte D’Ivoire.
He received a B.A. and an M.A. from Wake Forest University and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
