Manila: Two armed men shot dead a university president in the southern Philippines on Sunday, according to a radio report.
Arturo Eustaquio III, president Universidad de Zamboanga, was shot in the chest as he left his home in Maestra Vicenta, Sta. Maria town in Zamboanga City on Sunday afternoon.
Police said that the gunmen were armed with a 45-calibre pistol when they shot Eustaquio, who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the shooting.
The victim was rushed to the hospital owned by his family, but was declared dead on arrival. Six empty shells were found at the crime scene.
Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat held an emergency meeting with police after the incident.
