Manila: The government will be forming an advisory panel in preparation for the resumption of peace negotiations with Moro and communist insurgents, a top official announced.
Teresita Quintos-Deles, President Benigno Aquino III's Peace Adviser, said the advisory body will be made up of select members of the Senate and House of Representatives, local officials of areas affected by the conflicts, non-government organisations and former chairpersons of past peace panels.
"The advisory body will not just advise the government panel with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) but also the panel to be constituted will talk with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples' Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF)," Quintos-Deles said in an interview with government-run radio station dzRB.
The purpose of the panel will be to give advice and recommendations to the government committee negotiating with the rebels which is headed by University of the Philippines College of Law Dean, Marvic Leonen.
Designations
Deles said she had separate meetings with House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and with Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile to ask them to designate their representatives to the advisory body.
