Islamabad: German Foreign Minister Dr Guido Westerwelle telephoned Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar overnight to take Islamabad into confidence on the outcome of the Bonn conference on Afghanistan.

He expressed the hope that Pakistan would continue extending its valuable support to peace and development in Afghanistan especially towards achieving political reconciliation in the country, the foreign ministry here said in a statement.

Khar assured the German foreign minister that Pakistan would carefully examine the Bonn declaration and acknowledged Germany's valuable contributions in bringing about peace in Afghanistan, it said.

Stability

She stressed that stability in Afghanistan was essential for peace in the region and it was therefore necessary that all worked together on the basis of mutual respect to attain the shared objective.

According to the foreign ministry statement, Khar told her German counterpart Pakistan was determined to continue striving for peace and prosperity in the region.

Pakistan boycotted the Bonn conference held on Monday protesting the November 26 Nato air strikes on its two posts along the border with Afghanistan, which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, triggering an outrage in the country.

It had also closed border crossings to Nato supplies for troops in Afghanistan and asked the US to vacate an airbase used for drone attacks.
