Muzaffarabad: Police say a van carrying about 30 schoolchildren plunged into a river in Pakistan-held Kashmir and most of the kids are dead or missing.

Local police chief Ghulam Akber says police rescued the driver and four injured children after Tuesday's accident. Eleven bodies were recovered and the other children were missing.

Akber said rescuers struggled to reach the van in the middle of the river to save more children.

The driver lost control on an elevated road next to the Jhelum River in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-held Kashmir.

Pakistan's devastating floods that started in July didn't appear to have been a factor in the crash.
