Islamabad : Pakistan's military says its chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kiyani has left for the United States to participate in the strategic dialogue between the two allies in the war on terror.

An army statement says Kiyani left for Washington from the eastern city of Lahore yesterday.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations, he is visiting on the special invitation of Commander US Military Central Command, General David Petraeus.

He will participate in the Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue scheduled for March 24. The talks will be chaired by the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmoud Qureshi.

The purpose of the talks is to consider how the two sides could further improve cooperation in defeating terrorists.
