Mumbai: Spread over 17 acres of land in suburban Andheri, one of Asia’s largest hospitals offering modern facilities and healthcare at an affordable cost will be inaugurated on Sunday by the President of India, Pratibha Patil.
SevenHills Hospital, which already has a comprehensive healthcare system in Vishakapatnam for the past 25 years, will be a multi-speciality hospital with 1500 beds. In the first phase, 300 beds will be operationalised and the rest by the year end. The hospital will reserve 300 beds for critical care with dedicated intensive care units for cardiac, burns, neonates and paediatrics whilst another 300 beds will be reserved for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) patients who can avail the services at the same cost offered by other BMC hospitals.
The hospital is being set up on a plot owned by the BMC under a public private arrangement and therefore the reservation. Mumbai’s population of over 20 million has only 40,000-50,000 beds in the whole city, which is grossly inadequate. This new hospital is expected to serve the neglected suburb of Andheri east.
SevenHills boasts of a line-up of facilities—120 OPD chambers for consultants, 36 modular operation theatres, four cath labs and 24 dialysis units—and a diverse range of medical, surgical and diagnostic services under one roof. “Our vision is to make affordable and good quality healthcare accessible for all patients,” says Dr Jitendra Das Maganti, Chairman and Managing Director, SevenHills Hospital. “Hence, we call our Mumbai facility a HealthCity and not just a hospital.”
Dr Hemlata Maganti, Vice-President, Medical, adds, “With doctors from India and different parts of the world, SevenHills will have more than 30 specialities. Apart from the above mentioned services, some of the specialities are gastroenterology, neuro-sciences, diabetology, stem cell transplant, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.” The hospital offers 300 residential apartments to its doctors to ensure medical services are available round the clock. It also has parking for 1500 cars and an auditorium with a capacity for 350.
A separate Wellness Centre is located within the premises for various health check-up services. It will be one of the few hospitals in the country that will have a built-in electronic medical records system, making it a paperless facility.
For international patients, the hospital provides medical visa facilitation, ambulance transfer, interpreters, broadband internet services, currency exchange and so on.
