New Delhi: The ruling Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said that the government was ready to fight over the contentious Lokpal Bill.

Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, her first since undergoing a surgery in the United States of America in August this year, Sonia termed the draft of the Lokpal Bill, approved by the federal Cabinet on Tuesday night for introduction in Parliament Thursday, as "path-breaking".

"We are being criticised and attacked for not tackling the scourge of corruption. This is deliberate and malicious misinformation," Sonia said.

Sonia also denied suggestions about rift between the party and the government and said that the party and the government support each other.

Kiran Bedi, a core group member of Team Anna which has been fighting for a strong Lokpal Bill, however, mocked at Sonia by saying, "it is not a path-breaking bill, it's a heart-breaking bill."

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has already rejected draft of the Lokpal Bill and has announced that the 74-year-old crusader will undertake a three-day fast starting December 27, the day Lok Sabha is expected to start debate on the Lokpal Bill, in Mumbai, followed by courting of arrest by hundreds of thousands of his supporters all across the country.
