Dubai: Traffic on Emirates Road was abruptly halted on Tuesday after a car burst into flames.

Authorities closed off the Al Qudra exit off Emirates Road and cordoned off the area as police and civil defence rushed to the scene and doused the fire.

The accident happened a few hours after transport authorities were able to restore the traffic flow in Jumeirah Lakes Tower after a night of motorists sitting for two hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The Roads and Transport Authority said a leak in a pipeline caused the closure of two lanes on Al Sarayat Street, and that a team of emergency staff immediately responded to the issue and provided the necessary assistance.

By Tuesday morning, at around 6am, the leaked pipeline was fixed and all the barriers in the area were removed.

However, traffic jams soon hit Dubai roads after an accident was reported on Al Aweer Street towards the area of Ras Al Khor at around 8am.

Dubai Police warned motorists to take extra caution while driving and to use alternative routes to avoid traffic.

Another accident was also reported on Khail Road before the Oud Metha Road exit, causing further traffic jams in the direction towards Abu Dhabi.

In Abu Dhabi, heavy congestion affected Shaikh Zayed Street after a vehicle broke down in the traffic lane.

Traffic jams also affected motorists on Falah Street, before the intersection of Sultan Bin Zayed Street  heading towards Shaikh Zayed Road.
