Youth community group offers ‘A Dose of Help’

Sharjah: An environmental campaign initiated by two young girls from a UAE youth community group ‘Students for Earth’ has collected and donated over 1,000 units of sealed and unexpired medication to the Emirates Red Cresent during Ramadan.

President of the youth group Arushi Madan, 16, and team leader Khyati Saxena, 10, from India, launched the campaign ‘A Dose of Help’ on June 18, with the aim of protecting the environment while supporting the needy.

Over 120 types of medication were collected, all unused and sealed, with an expiry period of one year or longer.

“When medicines are not used, either because the doctor changed the prescription or told the patient to stop the medication, there is no reason for people to keep these medicines in their homes,” said Madan.

The medications included nasal drops, paracetamol, thyroxine, insulin, ointments, and cough syrup, among others.

The campaign, which lasted until July 5, was publicised through posters posted on social media sites and hung around several residential buildings in Sharjah. The medications were dropped off at the girl’s houses throughout the month, and were donated to officers from the Emirates Red Crescent in a small event held at Khalid Tower Park, Jamal Abdul Nasser Street, Sharjah on July 5.
