Abu Dhabi: An initiative launched by an Emirati woman to support mothers from all backgrounds in all stages of motherhood will be holding its first women-only event in Abu Dhabi this Saturday at The Domes, Abu Dhabi Zayed Sports City.

The Mama Bear Club was launched by 28-year-old Hamda Al Hadrami on social media on October 1 with the hope of building stronger community ties by providing mothers with a platform that allows them to support and communicate with each other easily.

“It’s all-inclusive and everyone is welcome. There is a need for expats and local mothers to talk to each other and connect. Regardless of your culture, your nationality, your age, Mama Bear Club is for all mothers. We are all on the same journey, we want to support each other and that is why it’s free,” said Al Hadrami.

“My main objective is to encourage a spirit of community and coming together,” added Al Hadrami.

Al Hadrami said she was inspired to start the initiative after the birth of her first child two years ago, as she faced difficulties trying to find people whom she could speak with about some of the issues she was facing.

For her first event this Saturday, Al Hadrami has teamed up with the organisers of #theADMovement, quarterly pop-up events that are held in different locations in Abu Dhabi to expose women to local-based trends or local-based businesses that are related to health and fitness.

The Mama Bear Club and #theADMovement decided to collaborate to encourage women, mothers and children to benefit from fitness activities and to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Titled ‘Unleash and Unwind’, the event will include a series of activities, including fun fitness activities, kids’ games, pumpkin carving, arts and crafts. There are also health screenings, colour therapy, nutritional consultations, meditative yoga and food samples.

Aiming to promote local healthy food and beverage vendors, pop-up shops will showcase the local brands and products. Over 300 people have already registered for the event and Al Hadrami said they are expecting the number to possibly double on the day. The event is open to women, children and boys up to age 8.

Al Hadrami said she hopes to connect mothers through planned themes by meetups, events and a digital platform, and she is already working on her next event.

“The next event is themed around reading, to get children excited about reading. It’s about teaching children why reading is so important and to encourage a reading culture in Abu Dhabi,” said Al Hadrami.
