Dubai: In a rare video that was recently released, social media users were excited to watch footage of the founder of Dubai meeting the most iconic figure in the Arab world – Jamal Abdul Nasser.

The footage, which was posted online on May 6, 2017, was accompanied with a caption in Arabic: “Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a young boy accompanied by his father on a visit to Abdul Nasser in 1959 to identify the features of the Egyptian Renaissance.”

The video starts with a plaque stating the ruler of Dubai’s official visit to the United Arab Republic (UAR) in Cairo.

Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum (1912-1990), was Ruler of Dubai from 1958. He was also the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Vice-President from 1971 until his death on October 7, 1990.

The UAR was a short-lived political union between Egypt and Syria from 1958 to 1961, when Syria pulled out from the union after the 1961 Syrian coup d'état. However, Egypt continued to be known officially as the United Arab Republic until 1971 with its president Abdul Nasser.

In the video, viewers can see also Shaikh Rashid and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, meeting a number of senior government officials, and on a visit to one of the factories in Cairo.

Towards the end of the footage, Abdul Nasser presents Shaikh Rashid and Shaikh Mohammad with a gift.

That nostalgic moment captured on camera was then posted as a screengrab on Shaikh Mohammad’s official Instagram account on Tuesday.
