Dubai: Veteran Emirati journalist Musabeh Obaid Al Daheri died on Saturday. The 120-year-old was one of the first journalists in the UAE. He founded a local newspaper called “Al Nakhi” in 1934.

He then had to shut down Al Nakhi newspaper to avoid a rift with British colonialists who were dissatisfied with his political articles.

Born in 1896 in Al Ain, Musabeh learnt writing, reading and math from the first Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayd Al Nahyan - the paternal uncle of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Musabeh's life was an example of giving and success that was coupled with determination, persistence and patience.

He was a leading media personality. He was the first to build a two-storey mud house in the country. He was also the first to open a traditional coffee shop in Al Ain.
