Caring for the elderly using the latest technology is this year’s focus of Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA) as showcased in their Gitex Technology Week offering.

CDA installed sensors in homes of Emirati elderly living alone in Dubai so as to monitor their condition remotely and provide care and emergency assistance when needed.

The service includes installing sensors in older persons’ homes that use radiation to detect changes in the occupants’ conditions, without the need for surveillance cameras. The device produces health readings and monitors movement to ensure the user is in good health. The readings are then sent to the call centre in CDA’s headquarters, which keeps an eye out on anything out of the ordinary.

Thani Bin Jarash, Executive Director of Corporate Support Sector at CDA, said taking part in Gitex Technology Week provided them with deep insight into the latest technological innovations, which can then be utilised to serve all segments of society by incorporating them into their services.

During the exhibition, CDA also showcased updates on its applications like Sanad, which will partner with different centres around the world to allow those with hearing disabilities or speech impairment to communicate with other people or organisations and access the services they need in their everyday lives.

CDA also featured their own smart application and the updated version of the Dubai Volunteer Application, which streamlines and facilitates the procedures for registering volunteers and announcing volunteer opportunities.
