Abu Dhabi: Residents have hailed Emirates airline’s decision to allow electronic devices on flights to the US. Gulf News spoke to some residents:

Bilal Khalil, Lebanese, Director of Sales, Leading Hotels of the World

“I think that this was the perfect and correct decision, the UAE is a hub for business and travel, so it was not the best policy to place such a ban in the first place. Fly Emirates and Etihad Airways are really the pioneers and standard bearers when it comes to air travel, so it was a mistake to have such a ban, and thankfully that policy has been corrected. It’s a very good thing for everybody, and also for me as a businessman because I travel a lot, and now with the lifting of the ban it makes things much more comfortable and flexible for me when I fly. To be honest I expected the ban to be lifted, but the fact that it was removed in a short period of time surprised me, and I think that just shows the strong position of the UAE, you cannot keep a ban like this on a country like the UAE, which is a leading international economic hub.”

Dr Mohammad Naeemat, Emirati businessman

“I believe the lifting of the ban on electronic devices is a very good one, and will be a positive benefit for the UAE, and especially for the business community because many areas were affected by the banning. The lifting of the ban also demonstrates the great leaders we have and the work they have done, removing this ban shows the strong and reliable reputation the UAE has.”

Karim Mousa, Jordanian, Regional Business Development Manager, Siemens Energy

“The lifting of the ban on electronic devices is a welcome, when it was enacted it was kind of a burden, so the fact that the decision has been reversed, and so quickly as well, helps put things back to normal again and ends any possible disruptions. Thankfully, I didn’t have to travel to the US when the ban was placed, but it was something that I did think about, I am someone that does a lot of work while flying, even on short haul flights, so the reversal of the ban is good for me personally.”
