Dubai - Empowering youth and encouraging their creativity and innovation are key to the future of national media, according to Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of the National Media Council (NMC) Dr. Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber.

Speaking at the fourth annual Emirati Media Forum today, Dr. Al Jaber discussed the role and accomplishments of the National Media Council, highlighting its various experiences and challenges, and its strategies for achieving its objectives. His Excellency said that as part of the Council’s advisory role, it makes recommendations to the leadership such as raising social awareness of key issues.

He also said that the council coordinates with its regional counterparts to unify efforts to address issues such as terrorism. Dr. Al Jaber also said that the challenges faced by the council led it to reach out to other organisations that shared its values.

He added that local media should support the national agenda. He stressed on the importance of addressing expatriates of diverse nationalities living in the country by delivering creative content in various languages. “Diversity is critical to success,” he said.

He also highlighted the role of social media such as Twitter, which he said are giving rise to new trends like ‘Twitter diplomacy’. “We shouldn’t ignore this as well,” he said.

People are vital to any development effort, and critical to the UAE’s ability to maintain its exponential growth, he added.
