Sharjah: A young Arab man tried to end his life by overdosing on anti-epileptic drugs after he allegedly saw his girlfriend with another guy, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News on Sunday.

The Moroccan youth, a 22-year-old university student, carried out his suicide bid on Wednesday night, police said.

The decision to end his life came after he was shocked to see his girlfriend with another man — and he claimed seeing her holding the other man's hand.

Depressed after realising that his girlfriend was cheating on him, the youngster went back home in Sharjah's Al Tawuan district.

He then informed his mother about his girlfriend’s deed. The young man said he loved the girl so much that he could not love anybody else.

Distraught and emotionally shaken, the youngster reportedly popped 24 tablets anti-epileptic drugs and fell unconscious.

His mother, however, managed to curtail his plan and called an ambulance team, who rushed him to the hospital where medicial team saved his life.

The young man is currently receiving treatment at Sharjah's Al Kuwaiti Hospital.

An official at Al Kuwaiti hospital told Gulf News that the man was admitted to the hospital at around 8.30pm and the young man was in critical condition.

The medical staff used a special device to quicky remove the contents of his stomach. The young man reported to be in stable condition.

Police office at the hospital informed Buhairah Police station about the incident.

The youngster is placed under police custody and authorities are now investigating the incident.
