Dubai: A runaway horse caused traffic delays on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said the runaway horse was reported at 2pm on Wednesday. “The horse was found running on Al Rashidiya bridge on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, which caused traffic disruption,” he said.

Dubai Municipality and Dubai Police traffic patrols were alerted to track the horse’s movements to ensure the safety of the horse and the public.

The horse was captured by Dubai Municipality and Dubai Police’s mounted police and the horse was transported by one of the mounted police’s carriages to the municipality.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said they have identified the horse’s owner and made him sign an undertaking to be more careful about where he leaves his horse.

“The horse ran away from Al Noor School in Al Ghusais, where the man’s children are enrolled. The man said that he had given the school the horse to use as part of some event. The horse strayed from the school grounds and out on the road,” he said.

The man was not fined and was only given a warning as it was a first instance, “if this happens again the man will be held legally responsible, as stray animals can pose a risk to people and can cause accidents,” Maj Gen Al Mansouri said.
