Sharjah: An operetta highlighting the UAE’s achievements will open five-day celebrations in Sharjah to mark 44th National Day.

The celebrations that begin with an opening ceremony, including the operetta, at Sharjah National Park on November 29, will comprise 22 activities.

Many of the events will be held at the emirate’s tourist and heritage attractions.

The operetta narrates the story of the creation of the Union through to its success as among the most developed countries in the region. Other events include theatrical and musical shows as well as several workshops, and cultural and heritage exhibitions. Selected episodes of Freej, the first Emirati animated television series, will also be broadcast.

Students from Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services will perform a theatrical show on martyrs on November 30 — Commemoration Day.

There will also be sculptured sand models that reflect the heroism of Emirati soldiers, recognising their sacrifice and dedication to their country.

As part of the celebrations, students will submit a project based on the application of physics and mathematics with an aim to invent new technologies.

Khalid Jasem Al Midfa, head of the Higher Committee, said: “The celebrations will see official and public participation by local and federal departments and authorities as well as by private companies, Emirati nationals and residents.”

The National Day programme concludes on December 3.
