Sharjah: The Sharjah Police evacuated the Matajer centre mall in Sharjah’s Al Qaryan area on Friday afternoon after being tipped off about a suspicious object — an unclaimed bag.
The road was cordoned off for almost an hour as police examined the bag to ensure its contents were not dangerous to the public.
A scan of the bag revealed that it contained only sport items and clothes. Police said that the owner of the bag had left it behind.
Police urged the public not to hesitate and come forward to report any suspicious objects they spot. “We take all reports seriously and deal with them,” Sharjah Police said.
Meanwhile, the police has assured the public that there is no cause for concern regarding security in the emirate.
Residents can inform police on 999 for emergencies and 901 for non-emergencies.
