Dubai: The Community Development Authority (CDA) has launched an initiative aimed at renovating homes for retired people, senior citizens and special needs individuals facing difficult financial conditions.

Titled ‘Your home… our home’, the initiative will be implemented in a number of phases. The preparatory phase began with visits to 12 homes to evaluate the damages and the repairs required for each home, including painting works, interior fittings and the provision of furniture and furnishings.

The first phase will see old homes in Jumeirah and Umm Suqueim being renovated, while the second phase will take care of internal repairs and furnishing arrangements. All the logistical preparations for the first phase have been completed.

The initiative is part of CDA’s efforts to provide a network of social services in Dubai, enhance communication with individuals, support unprivileged families, and raise awareness of voluntary work.

Khalid Al Kamda, director general of the CDA, said in a media statement that the initiative emphasises the role of the body as a leading model in community work, and promotes a culture of volunteerism and social solidarity among different segments of UAE society, which has always been known for its leading position in humanitarian and charitable work.

“This project comes in line with CDA’s mission to launch initiatives that provide services tailored towards addressing the needs of community members,” Al Kamda said.

Nine CDA employees have volunteered for the project including Al Kamda and other executive directors. Additionally, the project has attracted 24 volunteers registered with CDA’s volunteering section.

For the initiative, CDA has partnered with Wade Adams, Emcon, Mamarotti Catering, Royal Concrete Contracting, Jotun Paints as well as main sponsor businessman Mohammad Al Sayah. Homeowners have expressed their appreciation for the CDA’s support.
