Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) lined up a string of philanthropic activities to mark the Zayed Humanitarian Day on Wednesday.

Held in cooperation with Rawafid Centre for Development and Education, and the Emirates Red Crescent, the activities marked the 13th anniversary of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’ death.

Activities were held as part of ‘Eid Joy’ initiative for the benefit of children and low-income earners. Shopping vouchers were gifted to Dubai Taxi female cabbies, while Ramadan Ration will be distributed to 500 needy families in various parts of Dubai.

Moaza Al Merri, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication at RTA, said, “We view Zayed Humanitarian Work Day as an exclusive charitable platform, especially as it coincides this time around with The Year of Giving 2017 initiative. RTA Women’s Committee has launched an array of distinctive initiatives this year, in coordination with the Rawafid Centre for Development and Education and the Emirates Red Crescent.”

Eid Joy initiative provides clothing to 100 orphan children from low-income families, with 30 female employees volunteering to accompany those kids to buy clothes from a mall.

“They will also spend time with children to cheer them up during the upcoming Eid Al Fitr days. Helping needy children through charity fits well with the Islamic values, human dignity and civilised behaviour,” she added.

The humanitarian work also saw distribution of shopping vouchers to female cabbies at Dubai Taxi Corporation who participated in Zayed Humanitarian Work Day.

“We have also distributed Ramadan supplies coupons to 500 needy families in Oud Mateena, Satwa, Hor Al Anz-East, Hatta, and Muhaisna, with RTA Women’s Committee visiting 100 families and 400 families received the Ramadan Ratio from RTA’s volunteers. RTA pays considerable attention to disadvantaged families in Dubai and is keen on engaging them in the festive atmosphere of the holy month, particularly in maintaining their dignity in Ramadan,” added Al Merri.

She added that the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day symbolises the values of generosity and passion that the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan was keen to instill in our hearts and minds until the UAE had become a global icon for a humanity free from ethnic, sex or religious discrimination.
