Dubai: The 33rd edition of the Porsche RoadStar campaign concluded on Thursday with eight motorists being rewarded for safe driving in Sharjah.

Abu Al Hassan Ahmad and Rasha Ramadan from Egypt, Reem Qader from Jordan, Omar Khalifa from the UAE, Altaf Farouqi and Mohammad Sahoul from India, Abdullah Al Nabhani from Oman and Amani Mohammad from Iraq were the last batch of lucky winners.

Drivers who adhere to the basic principles of good driving such as wearing seat belts, using child safety seats, indicators and hands-free mobiles, observe lane discipline and display courtesy, in addition to staying within the prescribed speed limits were considered for the award.

One of Thursday’s winners, Abdullah Al Nabhani, was driving a car with Omani plate numbers.

Al Nabhani was in the UAE on vacation and was driving from his hotel to Sharjah with his family, when he was stopped near Al Majaz park by the campaign.

“It’s a great campaign that encourages people to abide to traffic rules and regulations. It’s my first time to receive an award for my driving,” he said.

He said that as he is a lawyer, he always feel responsible to follow the rules and he also cares about his family’s safety.

The campaign’s 33rd edition is sponsored by Porsche Centre Dubai and Al Nabooda Automobiles, with RSA Insurance and EMA Lubricants as co-sponsors.

Samy Elansary, General Manager EMA Lubricants (ExxonMobil JV) said, the campaign has again proven to be a good medium to instill safe driving habit among drivers, which leads to saving lives.

“Today’s vehicles are safer than ever, but that doesn’t mean you should rely on your vehicle’s safety features to protect you and your family on the road. Having some basic safety precautions in mind - and keeping the right tools in your trunk - can help you stay prepared for the unexpected when you’re on the road,” he added.

Chris Dooley, RSA CEO, UAE & Bahrain, “As a leading insurer in the region, championing road safety has always been a key focus for us at RSA. The Porsche RoadStar contest offers the perfect platform to recognise and reward safe drivers while promoting good practice on the roads.”
