Dubai: Residents, schools and organisations are being called on to register for Dubai’s first fitness challenge and join the entire community in championing a positive change.

The largest city-wide fitness movement to date, announced by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, is encouraging all society members to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle as a choice for life.

All the challenge takes is committing to a minimum of 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 days from October 20 till November 18. It could be as simple as adding a walk to one’s daily routine, riding the bike to work, going for a swim before dinner or setting up a team initiative to get colleagues to exercise for the first 30 minutes of every work day.

The challenge will include all forms of activity such as walking, team sports, intense fitness regimes, paddle-boarding, aerobics, football, yoga and cycling, among others. It will provide residents an experience in performing a wide range of sports and exercise programmes that will be showcased across the city that they may not have tried before.

Action-packed calendar

The Dubai Fitness Challenge will begin with a month of citywide events and activations, including more than 1,500 free workout classes at 88 partner fitness and sports facilities, 75 pop-up fitness locations for easy and convenient workouts, 16 partner sporting events, five weekend family fun carnivals and a whole range of sports and fitness activities.

Other highlights of the initiative include five weekend fitness carnivals starting at Safa Park on October 20 and 21. Celebrity guests, motivational experts and fitness professionals will make motivational appearances at various locations, dedicated events and live entertainment.

The challenge will include free exercise classes and dedicated community activities in each of Dubai’s neighbourhoods. It will also feature a number of existing partner events including Dubai Colour Run, Dubai Mass Swim and Dubai Schools Fitness Games among others.
