Dubai: Dubai Police’s Child and Women Protection Department is helping a woman after her husband burnt their daughter and threatened to throw her from the balcony.

Major Shaheen Al Mazmi, director of the department, said the three-year-old child is currently with her grandmother. The grandmother and the 22-year-old mother had sought the help of the department.

He explained that the father, 23, used to carry the child and threaten to throw her from the balcony whenever there was a disagreement between the couple. “What the father did to the child and mother is unimaginable,” he said.

A medical report confirmed that the injuries on the girl’s body were burns.

The father had also forced the mother to take drugs and she had become addicted.

Al Mazmi said the department attempted to contact the father to summon him to resolve the problem amicably, but to no avail.

The couple has an open court case, and a police case was filed against the father after he assaulted the girl’s uncle when he tried to take her from her grandmother’s house.

Fatima Al Kindi, Head of the Social Support section, said the mother had left her child in the grandmother’s care while she stayed with her husband who abused her.

The case is still ongoing and legal procedures are yet to be taken against the husband.

Al Kindi said that they are contacting the authorities concerned to help the mother with her addiction, so she can be fit to take care of the child.
