Abu Dhabi: The chief minister of the southern Indian state of Kerala Oommen Chandy will interact with expatriates from Kerala at an event in Sharjah during his three-day visit to the UAE.

Chandy is to attend the Global Meet of Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) in Abu Dhabi. He will arrive in Dubai on Wednesday night and return to India on Friday night from Abu Dhabi, P.T. Chacko, his press secretary, told Gulf News over phone from Thiruvananthapuram in India on Monday.

On Thursday morning, he will attend a high-level meeting at Dubai Tecom, related to the Smart City project in Kochi in Kerala, Chacko said.

Chandy will interact with expatriates at the Sharjah Indian Association at 6pm on Thursday evening, said M.G. Pushpakaran, president of Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) UAE central committee.

“It will be like his popular mass contact programme in Kerala,” he said.

Chandy is popular for his mass contact programmes in which he meets thousands of people, receives their complaints and often takes immediate action.

The chief minister will have a separate meeting with expatriates from Puthuppally in Kottayam district, his constituency in the state, Pushpakaran said.

Chandy will leave for Abu Dhabi on Friday morning to attend the OICC meet.
