Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has instructed Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) to launch an initiative called ‘One Saving Hour’ on July 1 of each year from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
The date was selected during the peak hours of summer to coincide with the high demand for power and water.
The aim of the ‘One Saving Hour’ initiative is to promote the conservation culture and raise awareness in the community about rational use of electricity and water and reduction of toxic emissions. The public will be urged to switch off all unnecessary devices during the One Saving Hour.
According to recent surveys conducted by Sewa on consumption trends during the last five years, July 1 witnessed the highest demand for power in conjunction with high temperatures and humidity, particularly when the date falls during Ramadan.
Dr Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of Sewa, pointed out that the instructions of Shaikh Sultan are in line with his constant endeavour to encourage individuals in the community to contribute to the conservation process.
