Muscat: The death toll in Wednesday’s Kalba road accident rose to three, as an Omani woman in her 40s succumbed to her injury in a Fujiarah hospital on Friday morning.

The woman had suffered 35 per cent burns.

An eight-year-old boy succumbed to his injury in Fujairah hospital on Thursday morning. The boy’s body was repatriated on Thursday, according to Oman Embassy in Abu Dhabi. He was laid to rest the same day, his relatives said.

A one-year-old infant died on the spot and 22 other people sustained moderate to severe injuries in the accident on Wednesday morning. The infant was laid to rest on Wednesday evening.

All three deceased were residents of Khabourah province.

A total of 24 passengers were travelling in the bus, returning from the Sharjah airport to Oman after a trip to Iran. The bus overturned due to a sudden curve at Madeeq Street of Wadi Al Helo of Kalba around 6.50am and caught fire, according to Sharjah Police.

One child, who sustained fractures in his legs, is still hospitalised in Fujairah.

The passengers were holidaying in Iran and are from South Batinah governorate. Most of them were children and women.
