Dubai: Dubai Municipality has imported environmentally-friendly equipment and machinery to remove sand and waste accumulated on the streets.
The equipment, which operates on electricity, has been designed according to the latest international standards and is considered the first of its kind in the region.
It maintains a reduced noise level and has low carbon emissions than the conventional equipment previously used.
Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department, said the move is part of the municipality’s keenness to improve waste management processes and accomplish futuristic work in the field of sustainable environmental management of waste in Dubai.
“We have imported a total of 15 new vacuum cleaners that save a lot of time in carrying out field cleaning tasks as they are provided freedom of movement. These machines have a high technical ability to manoeuvre freely and work on the principle of smooth starting and rapid spread to achieve the desired goal,” he said.
Saifaie, pointed out the machines can collect a large quantity of waste as they have a capacity of about 240 litres. Additional features include energy saving night lights and warning panels installed on the front and rear. They work for 16 hours non-stop with high flexibility.
