Dubai: Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality on Sunday officially inaugurated the Al Quoz Abattoir, behind Al Wahda Centre.

The new abattoir, which has a capacity for processing 1,500 small and 50 large animals daily, will be open from 6am to 11pm throughout the week, except on Fridays, the civic body said in a press statement.

Lootah reviewed the modern facilities of the new abattoir, which is equipped with the latest machineries and tools, especially the common hall for small and large animals that allows the customers to see the slaughtering, skinning and cutting process directly and clearly from the moment of handing over the animal until the meat is delivered.

The abattoir has high quality mechanical equipment capable of protecting the safety and health of consumers. It has a men’s lounge, a women’s lounge, a refrigerator for cooling meat and 10 sheds for storing livestock for traders before the slaughtering process. These sheds are periodically cleaned every day to protect animals from diseases before slaughtering and maintaining public health.

The abattoir is also provided with an area for selling meat and it follows smart online ways to meet the needs of the public.

Lootah directed the Public Health Services Department to activate the Mawashi App and the Smart Abattoir system in order to reiterate the Municipality’s interest and care in public health and in meeting their needs with ease.

He said that the prices in the Al Quoz Abattoir are like in the rest of the abattoirs in the emirate and it has not been increased or changed because the work of the Municipality in this area is a service and protection of the public health is not for profit.
