Sharjah: An operetta which told the 45-year-old nation’s story entertained crowd on Sharjah’s Flag Island on Friday as part of the National Day celebrations.

The operetta featured performances from Emirati superstar singer Hussain Al Jasmi and artists Fayez Al Saeed and Jassim Mohammad.

Taking place in seven acts, the performance highlighted the UAE’s founding fathers and the current leadership.

The first act, The Authentic Past, showed theatrical scenes and folk shows that highlighted the country’s lifestyle in the past, and how Emiratis managed to live in the harsh desert climate.

Another act paid tribute to the country’s martyrs from the armed forces.

Another act focused on the achievements of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. It showed Shaikh Sultan’s commitment to children and young adults through his contribution to establishing youth centres and universities.

The final act, ‘The Nation of Flags’, saw artists and school pupils gather on the stage to raise the UAE flag.

Seven musical works written by renowned Emirati poets Rashid Sharar and Nasser Al Shanfari were also performed.

The musical saw the attendance of a large number of senior officials, as well as many community and media personalities.
