Abu Dhabi: Masdar Park at Masdar City has reopened with more family attractions, which will contribute to the city’s image as a popular community destination.

The expanded park, now double in size at 2,500 square metres, includes more food and beverages (F&B) outlets, a children’s playground, music wall, sports facilities and design installations themed on sustainability, said a Masdar press release issued on Tuesday.

Open daily from 9am to 10pm, Masdar Park is also hosting music, games and other community activities on weekends until The Festival at Masdar City on January 19 and 20, a fun-filled sustainability-themed celebration held at the end of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

Besides food, refreshments and an expanded play area, visitors can enjoy the 2.5km-long Al Mamsha trail starting at Masdar Park — perfect for running, walking, biking and even fitness sessions, with exercise equipment dotted along the trail’s route. A football field and basketball court are also available for bookings.

Eight F&B outlets are now open in total, serving a mix of local and international food, each one housed inside brightly coloured shipping containers. There are also family picnic areas.

In keeping with Masdar City’s role as a “green print” for low carbon urban development, a sustainability theme runs throughout Masdar Park. Every outlet is equipped with rooftop solar panels while visitors can recharge their smartphones and other devices at special solar-powered park benches. The park’s signature design feature is the “Tree of Light”, a new attraction, which lights up and changes colour with human interaction.

“We’re so excited to have Masdar Park up and running again,” said Yousuf Baselaib, executive director of Sustainable Real Estate at Masdar. “This park contributes to our vision for a live, work and play culture at Masdar City — by providing families with outdoor recreation. Masdar Park was extremely popular with the local community before it closed for expansion; now it’s big enough to support Masdar City’s new tenants and the continued growth of the city’s community,” he said.
