Khor Fakkan: Othman Al Naqbi, a Khor Fakkan resident, rescued a Filipino couple from drowning at a beach in Khor Fakkan on Saturday afternoon.
Al Naqbi told Gulf News that on Saturday around 4.15pm he was in his car driving near the beach when he heard loud screams coming from the sea seeking help.
The Filipino couple almost drowned after their jet ski overturned.
Al Naqbi said: “I saw the couple in the sea struggling and their jet ski away from them, they were wearing life jackets but shouting for help.
“I called 999 and informed the Police about the incident, then I went into the sea despite my shoulder injuries and brought them ashore to safety.
By the time, he said, the Police patrols, maritime and rescue units arrived on the spot. Al Naqbi managed to save the couple and they were given first aid and taken to hospital for a medical check-up.
Al Naqbi was honoured by Sharjah Police for his heroic and humanitarian act. Brigadair Ali Saif Al Nadas, Director of external areas police department, lauded the efforts of the brave man and honoured him for his courage and prompt response.
