Dubai: Mall visitors in the region donated more than 60 tonnes of books, toys, clothes and other items to less fortunate families across the region during its 11th annual ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan campaign.

The campaign by Majid Al Futtaim encouraged communities across the region to participate and make a difference by donating goods and money via marked charity boxes at Majid Al Futtaim’s shopping malls, leisure and entertainment destinations and Carrefour stores in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, and the UAE.

Almost 9,000 people contributed to the ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan campaign this year. Customers were also able to donate via Fetchr, which volunteered its drivers to collect and drop off donations free of charge, in a successful charitable partnership.

Majid Al Futtaim also received $57,500 (Dh211,000) in cash contributions from Carrefour customers and through Najm, the company’s Visa credit card.

Alain Bejjani, chief executive officer, Majid Al Futtaim – Holding, said: “Each year, we are humbled by the generosity of our customers during Ramadan. For the 11th consecutive year, their enthusiastic participation and generous donations have made our ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan campaign a wonderful success.

“With the help of our trusted charity partners in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman and the UAE, 60 tonnes of toys, books and clothes are making their way to children in need across the region.”
