Sharjah: The Sharjah Tatweer Forum (STF) has launched an initiative to help independent professionals cope with change in the workplace.

The non-profit organisation’s initiative called Innovation Management for Emerging Leaders, running until November 25, is part of UAE Innovation Week which ends on November 28.

The programme explores the problems and possibilities of an organisational change effort.

Dr Haney Hong, lecturer at the University of San Diego in the US, will share his expertise in workshops.

The aim of the course is to design and develop a toolkit comprising strategies and models to help make change comfortable — even exciting — at the workplace.

Jasem Al Beloushi, chairman of STF, said innovation should be purposeful, not just a passing fad. At STF, the main purpose behind innovation is to draw the public and private sectors, as well as civil society, closer to the UAE Vision 2021, he added.

“The trend in the country today is to drive the youth towards entrepreneurship. This is a very special type of trend: It not only drives the youth to establish their company, but in order to do that, they have to first become leaders. Then, as entrepreneurs, they have to be innovative to really succeed, otherwise someone else will take the business away. So it combines the two qualities together and makes them flow in the same direction,” Al Beloushi said.

“Keeping this in mind, the STF is committed to providing platforms such as the Innovation Management programme, which aims to engage and bring about a structured approach in coping with innovation development at the a workplace.”
