Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation Launches ‘Reading Convoy’ to Distribute ‘Knowledge Bundles’ to Remote Emirati Families

Dubai: More than 3,000 bundles of books will be distributed to Emirati families residing in remote areas of the country as part of an initiative launched by Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF).

The “Reading Convoy” initiative, which reflects MBRF’s commitment to the “Month of Reading” initiative, will see a delegation of the foundation’s employees visit remote areas across the UAE from March 26 to 30, 2017, to distribute bundles of books on various topics to the families.

The initiative aims to promote reading in the UAE and distribute the foundation’s publications to all segments of society, which include international bestsellers translated into Arabic.

The areas to be covered will include: Al Aweer, Al Habab, and Hatta in the emirate of Dubai; as well as Falaj Al Mu’alla, Murbah, Qidfa’, and Dafna in Umm Al Quwain. Elsewhere, the delegation will visit the Western Region and Zayed City in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to Dibba Al Fujairah.

Jamal Bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF said the initiative was launched to support the National Reading Strategy, which designated the month of March as the annual ‘Month of Reading’ and is also part foundation’s efforts to honour the Year of Giving 2017.

“This new initiative reaffirms the MBRF’s role as a leading vehicle for the production and dissemination of knowledge not only in Dubai, but in the entire UAE,” Bin Huwaireb said.

“The ‘Reading Convoy’ reaches out to Emirati families in remote areas across the country and offers them ‘Knowledge Bundles’ to educate all members of the family. The initiative also promotes volunteer work among our own employees, who are personally delivering these bundles to the families.”

More than 3,000 bundles have been earmarked for distribution, and the foundation is working to widen the area covered by the initiative in order to reach more villages and cities across the UAE. This comes on the heels of the positive feedback the foundation has received from the public — particularly on social media.
