Sharjah: Tragedy has struck the family of an Indian expat, who died a day before returning home for good earlier this week, again.

His ailing mother in India also passed away after hearing the news of her son’s death, a relative told Gulf News on Wednesday.

Gulf News had reported about the death of Sundaresan Asokan, 46, on Tuesday.

A supervisor with a metal fabrication company in Dubai, Asokan had collapsed at his company’s accommodation in Sharjah on Sunday night.

He passed away after suffering a heart attack a day before he was scheduled to fly home for good on Monday night, his colleagues had said.

A relative of Sundaresan on Wednesday told Gulf News over phone from the South Indian state of Kerala that Asokan’s mother, Annamma, also died within hours after she was informed about her son’s death on Tuesday afternoon.

Her funeral was held at their hometown in Alappuzha district on Wednesday morning.

“She was in her late 70s. She was suffering from age-related ailments. But she was heart-broken after she was told about his [Asokan’s] death. She died within three hours,” the relative said.

Sundaresan was the second of her two sons. He is survived by his wife and two school-going children.

His colleagues said the company officials were working on repatriating his body.
